The UK Ministry of Defence has awarded a £279-million ($373-million) contract to build a purpose-built base for its army cyber regiment.
Located at Duke of Gloucester Barracks in Gloucestershire, the new facilities will support 13 Signal Regiment, delivering defensive cyber operations. The site will feature a Cyber, Information and Security Operations Centre, technical and training buildings, and upgraded living quarters.
British construction company Bovis will lead the project, expected to create 92 jobs, including 32 apprenticeships and positions for veterans. Construction is slated to begin in summer 2027 and conclude in spring 2030.
The redevelopment will include 248 single-bed accommodations, 30 family homes, and refurbished existing housing. Around 25% of the investment will benefit local businesses, with a similar proportion earmarked for SMEs.
Recent UK MoD cyber modernization initiatives include BAE Systems’ Trinity Wide Area Network for tactical communications and QinetiQ’s work on the Thundercloud data management system and cybersecurity services, strengthening digital and operational resilience.
