Prime Minister Mark Carney warned that Canada must assume greater responsibility for its own defense as US priorities change and announced a $6 billion Canadian dollar ($4.2 billion) agreement with Australia to construct an Arctic radar system. On the last day of his first official visit as prime minister since replacing Justin Trudeau last week, Carney made the announcement in Iqaluit, the capital of the Nunavut territory in the Canadian Arctic.
