In a significant stride towards enhancing its air combat capabilities and promoting self-reliance in defense technology, the Indian Air Force (IAF), in collaboration with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), has initiated a project to modify six Su-30 MKI fighter jets. This crucial initiative focuses on integrating the indigenous Astra missile series onto these frontline aircraft. The Astra missiles, developed by DRDO, are advanced beyond-visual-range air-to-air missiles (BVRAAMs) designed to engage aerial targets at extended ranges, which will significantly bolster the IAF’s strategic reach and operational effectiveness.
