The Israeli Ministry of Defence has contracted BIRD Aerosystems to enhance the Apache attack helicopter fleet with its upgraded Airborne Missile Protection System (AMPS), featuring the µDIRCM (Micro Directed Infrared Countermeasure). Developed with Israel’s defense R&D directorate, the µDIRCM is the world’s most compact and lightweight system of its kind, weighing under 7 kilograms and optimized for wingtip installation. It integrates advanced infrared tracking and solid-state lasers to jam incoming threats, offering high accuracy and minimal false alarms. The system provides strong protection against MANPADS and heat-seeking missiles. BIRD’s Vice President Matan Perry said the adoption marks a milestone, combining compact design with powerful protection, amid rising global demand for such solutions.
