Australia will acquire 11 Mogami-class stealth frigates from Japan for $6 billion over 10 years. Built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, these warships will enhance Australia’s navy in response to regional tensions. The first ships will be delivered by 2030, replacing aging Anzac-class vessels. This deal deepens ties with Japan, a fellow Quad member, and reflects Australia’s broader defense reforms, including nuclear submarine procurement under AUKUS and increased military spending.
