BAE Systems’ San Diego shipyard has secured $98 million in US Navy contracts to conduct modernization and repair work on two surface combatants: the littoral combat ship USS Kansas City and the guided-missile destroyer USS Stockdale. The $37-million contract for Kansas City covers dry-docking, underwater hull preservation, onboard systems upgrades, and refurbishment of crew living spaces. The $61-million contract for Stockdale includes hull and superstructure preservation, refurbishment of fuel and ballast tanks, and upgrades to crew quarters. Both availabilities are scheduled to begin in May 2026 and will return the vessels to full operational readiness. The awards continue BAE Systems’ strong track record in US Navy sustainment, following several major maintenance and modernization contracts since 2024 for destroyers and amphibious ships, including USS Halsey, USS Laboon, USS Wasp, USS Carter Hall, and USS Forrest Sherman.
