In a move reflecting growing defense cooperation, the UK and Norway have joined the Common Armored Vehicle System (CAVS) initiative, originally launched by Finland and defense company Patria in 2020. They now join six other European participants focused on developing a uniform 6×6 armored ground vehicle. The platform, derived from Patria’s 8×8 armored personnel carrier, combines high mobility with modular adaptability and can be configured for troop transport, command, or specialized combat roles. Key features include a Scania 394-horsepower diesel engine, a 100 km/h top speed, and a 700 km range. The NATO-compliant design ensures compatibility across multinational forces. Nearly 1,000 vehicles have been procured, with deliveries underway. For the UK and Norway, this step ensures long-term cost savings, shared maintenance structures, and streamlined interoperability with European allies. The move also underscores a shift in European defense toward collective procurement strategies, reducing duplication and ensuring resilience in the defense supply chain.
