The Atlas floating dry dock has been formally accepted by General Dynamics Electric Boat to support the Columbia-class submarine program. Stationed in Groton, the mobile facility will handle key construction and testing phases for the next-generation nuclear deterrent fleet. Developed by Bollinger Shipyards, Atlas is a major infrastructure investment aligned with the Navy’s plan to field 12 Columbia-class submarines. With recent multibillion-dollar contracts accelerating production, the new fleet is expected to play a central role in US strategic deterrence well into the future.
