The Croatian Navy is preparing to acquire two new corvettes in a program estimated to cost between €660 million and €1.6 billion, a move that would significantly reshape the country’s naval force structure. Once inducted, the vessels will become the largest warships in Croatia’s fleet, which is currently limited to missile boats and patrol craft. The Ministry of Defence has entered discussions with up to 12 shipyards across eight countries that have met initial technical and industrial requirements. Shortlisted candidates include leading naval builders from France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, South Korea, Turkey, Spain, and the United States. Likely contenders include Fincantieri, Damen, Lürssen, and Hyundai. Proposed designs range from compact corvettes to light frigates, with displacement between 1,000 and 3,500 tons and lengths of 80 to 120 meters, offering multiple configuration options tailored to Croatia’s maritime security needs.
