An industry partnership between Boeing, Saab, and BAE Systems has been launched to develop a next-generation training system that will prepare Royal Air Force pilots for advanced combat aircraft. The collaboration is part of the UK’s 2025 Strategic Defence Review, with BAE Systems leading the effort and committing to UK-based assembly to create skilled aerospace jobs.

The companies plan to leverage the T-7A Red Hawk, selected by the US Air Force in 2018, as the core platform for the RAF’s future training pipeline. The aircraft integrates live flight training with virtual and constructive simulation, enabling pilots to refine complex mission skills in safe, realistic digital environments. The partnership also seeks to expand UK industry participation through enhanced supply chain opportunities.

Designed to ready pilots for fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-generation fighter aircraft, the T-7A is already being introduced into the US Air Force training system at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph. Full replacement of the T-38 Talon is expected toward the end of the decade.

Boeing and Saab continue positioning the T-7A as a global solution for modern air forces and have marketed it to India, South Korea, and NATO countries. Its scalability and advanced training capabilities remain key advantages for nations transitioning to next-generation fighter fleets.
