Fincantieri has launched the Italian Navy’s new hydro-oceanographic vessel, Quirinale, a specialized platform designed for mapping, scientific research, and maritime monitoring. Built to support the Italian Hydrographic Institute, the ship can accommodate up to 140 personnel and operate in extreme environmental conditions. Featuring advanced hydrographic, oceanographic, and geophysical sensors, along with autonomous underwater and surface vehicles, the vessel enhances Italy’s maritime data-collection capabilities. The design emphasizes environmental sustainability through diesel-electric propulsion, emission-reduction measures, and optimized hull forms. The launch reflects Fincantieri’s broader push into advanced naval platforms, including recent developments in underwater systems and seabed security technologies.
