The US Navy has initiated testing of a new digital healthcare system aboard the destroyer USS Carney, aiming to modernize medical care for sailors deployed far from shore. The Operational Medicine Care Delivery Platform (OpMed CDP) replaces fragmented, paper-based processes with a unified digital system that integrates with the Military Health System’s MHS GENESIS electronic health record. During the pilot, medical personnel trained on routine clinical tasks while ensuring seamless data sharing across care environments. Navy leaders approved an extended pilot to further evaluate performance under operational conditions, positioning USS Carney to become the first ship to rely fully on OpMed CDP. The effort mirrors broader US military initiatives to digitize healthcare delivery across services.
