Germany’s Hensoldt has received a €340 million ($397 million) contract to deliver additional air defense radars to Ukraine, including its TRML-4D and SPEXER 2000 3D MkIII systems. The TRML-4D, integral to the IRIS-T SLM surface-to-air missile systems already in Ukrainian service, uses active electronically scanned array (AESA) technology to detect, track, and classify up to 1,500 targets simultaneously within a 250-kilometer (155-mile) radius.

It can engage threats ranging from cruise missiles and drones to fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters. The SPEXER 2000, by contrast, is a short-range 3D radar designed for tracking low-flying aerial, ground, and maritime threats. It is deployed with Ukraine’s Skyranger 30 mobile air defense platform and counter-drone systems such as Feldlager and HoWiSM (High-Energy Laser for Drone Defense), enhancing situational awareness and interception capabilities across multiple domains.
