France has awarded a seven-year, €3 million ($3.52 million) contract to local firm SilMach to develop a microsensor for bulletproof vests. Designed for ballistic plates in protective gear, the shock sensor detects and records impacts, helping users determine whether ceramic components—prone to cracking during falls—remain intact. The sensor is energy-free, self-monitoring, and includes a built-in visual indicator, offering a cost-effective alternative to statistical inspection methods.
