German soldiers are set to receive advanced situational awareness capabilities following a contract between the Danish company Systematic and the Bundeswehr to supply SitaWare Edge software. The system is tailored for dismounted troops operating in fast-paced, often disconnected environments, providing planning, mapping, force tracking, chat, and mission coordination tools directly on mobile devices or tablets. Its intuitive design requires minimal training, allowing frontline soldiers to access real-time intelligence, monitor unit positions, and coordinate missions effectively while maintaining a link with higher command structures. SitaWare Edge also ensures secure communications under constrained network conditions, relying on tactical radios, satellites, or other low-bandwidth channels. The contract includes a development package enabling Germany to customize and enhance the software to meet operational requirements. This rollout forms part of Germany’s broader Mission Enabling Service initiative, which aims to modernize digital command and control (C2) across land, sea, and air operations, creating a unified information network for rapid communication and enhanced situational awareness from headquarters to individual soldiers. Aligning with NATO trends, the program emphasizes interoperability and networked operations, enhancing Germany’s operational agility and ability to integrate seamlessly with allied forces during joint missions. Systematic’s suite has been widely adopted within the Bundeswehr, and a seven-year maintenance agreement established in 2023 guarantees ongoing updates, support, and integration across multiple platforms. This deployment underscores Germany’s commitment to modern digital warfare capabilities and battlefield connectivity.
