The German Armed Forces have begun taking delivery of GL-40 grenade launchers from Austrian manufacturer Steyr Arms, marking progress under an expanded procurement agreement linked to a 2024 contract. The initial batch has already been shipped from the company’s Kleinraming production facility, with further deliveries planned under a revised framework finalized earlier this year. The original contract includes 4,776 units, reflecting Germany’s broader effort to modernize its infantry capabilities and align with NATO operational standards. The GL-40 is a 40mm grenade launcher engineered for both standalone deployment and integration with modern assault rifles such as the G95K and Steyr AUG platforms. Its modular design allows compatibility with a wide range of optics and accessories, enhancing versatility in diverse combat scenarios. Weighing approximately 1.7 kilograms, the system features a compact structure, adjustable stock, and side-loading barrel, ensuring ease of handling and rapid reloading. Its cold-forged construction improves durability and maintains accuracy even under sustained firing conditions. The introduction of the GL-40 is expected to enhance the lethality, flexibility, and effectiveness of German infantry units operating in both conventional and asymmetric warfare environments.
