Greece has finalized a contract with Naval Group for a fourth defense and intervention frigate (FDI) for the Hellenic Navy, covering acquisition, upgrades, and maintenance across the FDI fleet. Around 25% of work will be sourced domestically. The ship costs 982 million euros and joins the FDI HN program launched in 2022, originally covering three ships with an option for a fourth. The first vessels are already under construction, with the lead ship due by year-end. FDIs support anti-air, anti-submarine, anti-surface, and asymmetric operations through advanced digital systems. Their design supports harsh maritime environments, automated operations, and NATO-standard interoperability, with successful trials demonstrating stability in rough Atlantic conditions.
