“Hanwha Systems has won a 54.7-billion-won ($39.7 million) contract to build a next-generation radar for South Korea’s future long-range air defense missile system.
The agreement includes a prototype multi-function radar (MFR) created to improve threat identification for the Long-range Surface-to-Air Missile II (L-SAM II) program.
Although the complete details are kept under wraps, the radar is anticipated to monitor several approaching targets in real-time and employ highly accurate algorithms that are tailored for top-tier interceptions.
It will also provide a large improvement in range over the current L-SAM radar.
