A possible $3.64 billion transaction between the United States and Japan for Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) has been approved by the US State Department. Tokyo has requested 1,200 AIM-120D-3 and AIM-120C-8 AMRAAMs. In addition to the missiles, the package includes up to 20 AIM-120D-3 guidance sections with precise positioning provided by either Selective Availability Anti-Spoofing Module or M-Code, as well as up to four AIM-120C-8 guidance sections.
