The Indian Navy and the Indian Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) have test-fired an indigenous underwater sea mine.
The Multi-Influence Ground Mine was created to improve the navy’s capacity to counter contemporary stealth ships and submarines.
It has sensors that detect the acoustic, magnetic, pressure, and underwater electric potential/extra low frequency electric field signatures produced by ships.
The 1,000-kilogram (2,205 pound) weapon is powered by a lithium-thionyl chloride battery and can be launched from submarines, ships, and coastal patrol and monitoring posts.
The Naval Science & Technological Laboratory of the DRDO collaborated with the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory and the Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory to create it.
Apollo Microsystems Limited and Bharat Dynamics Limited are the manufacturing partners.
