Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has been awarded a contract to construct two more Pattugliatore Polivalente d’Altura (PPA) multipurpose combat ships for the Italian Navy.
Two ships that were previously assigned to the Indonesian Navy will be replaced by these.
Fincantieri is the lead contractor, with Leonardo as a partner, in the agreement overseen by the Organisation for Joint Armament Cooperation.
In 2029 and 2030, the vessels will be delivered in the “light plus” arrangement. The integrated shipyards of Fincantieri in Riva Trigoso and Muggiano will be the location of the construction.
The project is expected to cost about 700 million euros ($810 million), which includes the work that has already been done on the ships that will be sent to Indonesia.
