Italy is considering increasing its armed forces personnel from about 170,000 to 275,000 over the next 18 years. The proposal, presented to Defense Minister Guido Crosetto, would include a 15,000-strong reserve component and raise annual personnel costs significantly. The phased expansion would require parliamentary approval.
