Norway has awarded Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace a contract worth approximately 400 million Norwegian krone to modernize the combat systems aboard the Royal Norwegian Navy’s Skjold-class fast attack vessels. The upgrade is designed to significantly enhance combat effectiveness, sensor performance, and long-term technical reliability. New fire-control radars and advanced electro-optical sensors will improve the detection and tracking of small, fast-moving aerial and surface targets, including drones. These improvements ensure continued precision fire from the vessels’ 76mm naval guns and strengthen Norway’s coastal defense posture. The modernization effort builds on earlier upgrades and supports the operational relevance of the Skjold fleet well into the future.
