Leonardo DRS and Hofmann Engineering have announced a joint development agreement to design advanced naval propulsion systems under the AUKUS defense framework connecting Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The collaboration combines Leonardo’s expertise in electric and hybrid propulsion with Hofmann’s manufacturing infrastructure in Western Australia to support next-generation shipbuilding. The partnership will focus on research, innovation, and co-development of electric, hybrid, and steam-based propulsion systems to meet rising power demands across allied fleets. It will also explore export opportunities and shared technology initiatives aligned with AUKUS goals. Leonardo DRS currently provides propulsion solutions for the U.S. Navy’s Columbia-class submarines and other major international platforms. The new partnership supports Australia’s efforts to strengthen industrial participation in AUKUS programs while enhancing supply chain resilience and energy efficiency in naval vessels.
