India is progressing toward strengthening its naval capabilities through the proposed Project 75 Additional program, which involves acquiring three more Scorpene-class submarines. Led by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited in collaboration with Naval Group, the program leverages existing infrastructure to accelerate construction timelines. Valued at approximately ₹36,000 crore, the submarines will feature enhanced indigenization and incorporate DRDO-developed Air Independent Propulsion systems, enabling longer underwater endurance and improved stealth. The initiative also supports India’s ambition to become a regional maintenance hub for Scorpene submarines while maintaining fleet strength during delays in next-generation submarine programs.
