Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri and Spanish defense firm Navantia have signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a joint venture supporting the European Patrol Corvette (EPC) initiative. Backed by the EU’s Permanent Structured Cooperation and European Defence Fund frameworks, the program seeks to create an interoperable fleet for Italy, Spain, France, and Greece. The partnership will lead design work on the Full Combat Multipurpose variant while preparing for prototyping and parallel development of the Long-Range Multipurpose Patrol configuration. The modular vessel, roughly 110 meters long, will feature combined diesel-electric propulsion and customizable weapons systems.
