The US Navy has expanded its electronic warfare capabilities by awarding Northrop Grumman a contract to produce additional SEWIP Block 3 systems. These advanced systems are designed to detect, jam, and disrupt incoming missile threats, significantly enhancing the survivability of naval vessels. The latest contract includes the first shipset for an aircraft carrier, marking a major milestone in the program. SEWIP Block 3 represents a critical component of the Navy’s efforts to counter increasingly sophisticated threats in modern naval warfare. In addition to the full-scale system, Northrop Grumman is developing a lighter variant known as Scaled Onboard Electronic Attack (SOEA), which offers similar capabilities in a more compact form. This allows smaller ships to benefit from advanced electronic attack technologies. The program is part of a broader push to strengthen electronic warfare across the fleet, with additional efforts involving companies like Raytheon Technologies and L3Harris Technologies. Together, these initiatives aim to enhance the Navy’s ability to operate effectively in contested environments.
