The Norwegian government has selected BAE Systems to construct five to six new frigates, strengthening its strategic defense ties with the UK. The agreement, valued at 100 billion kroner ($10B), follows intense competition from French, German, and US bidders. Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre emphasized the long-standing integration between Norwegian and British navies, citing trust and proven capability as key factors. UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak hailed the contract, calling it a £10B ($13.5B) deal that will secure thousands of British jobs. This partnership enhances NATO’s maritime capabilities while reinforcing industrial collaboration.
