The Department of Defense has unveiled a system to enhance warfighter readiness by addressing mental performance. The Cognitive Monitoring Program is designed to assess how well troops can manage information, make decisions, and stay mentally resilient under stress.

The program uses computerized tests to evaluate ten core cognitive domains and incorporates a behavioral questionnaire to measure factors such as trauma, mood, and sleep quality. Baseline testing begins early in a service member’s career and continues periodically to detect any changes. This approach enables the military to intervene proactively and deliver care when cognitive performance begins to decline, preserving the effectiveness of its forces.
