As part of Peru’s larger maritime modernization plan, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries of South Korea has struck a deal with SIMA, Peru’s state-owned shipbuilder, to collaborate on the development of a 1,500-ton submarine for the Peruvian Navy. The project’s goal is to replace Peru’s antiquated submarine fleet with a new, medium-sized vessel based on HD Hyundai’s HDS-1500 design.
