Romania will become the first European country to procure Israel’s Iron Dome air and missile defense system. Romanian Defense Minister Ionuț Moșteanu confirmed that a formal agreement with Rafael, the Israeli state-owned manufacturer, is scheduled for signing in autumn 2025. The Iron Dome system includes Elta’s multi-mission radar, Tamir interceptor missiles, and mPrest’s command software. It is designed to intercept aircraft, drones, and short-range projectiles at ranges up to 70 km and altitudes of 10,000 meters. This acquisition represents a significant enhancement in Romania’s short-range air defense capabilities amid increasing regional security concerns.
