The first prototype of the No Manning Required Ship (NOMARS) has been finished by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and Serco. Without human involvement or mission systems, the NOMARS program intends to create a fleet of medium-sized unmanned surface vessels for carrying US Navy payloads. The initial testbed, known as the “USX Defiant,” will now be subjected to complicated waterborne testing in the theater and at the dock.
