Sweden has placed an order with Saab for 22 combat boats worth 900 million Swedish kronor ($94 million).
With shipments planned over the next several years, Saab’s Docksta shipyard will construct the boats.
The most recent iteration of the CB90 platform is the CB90HSM, a high-speed combat boat manufactured by Saab.
It has better firepower, speed, maneuverability, and situational awareness.
The most recent acquisition prior to this new contract was Sweden’s $38 million order for ten next-generation combat boats in June 2024. Made entirely of aluminum, the CB90HSM is designed for high-speed operations and intended to carry soldiers and equipment while maintaining stability and agility in demanding environments.
The ship has an overall length of 16.3 meters (53.5 feet), but its hull is only 14.9 meters long.
Its 0.9-meter (3-foot) draft makes it suitable for use in low coastal seas.
With a full load, the CB 90HSM has a cruising speed of 38 knots (43 miles/70 kilometers per hour) and a top speed of over 40 knots (46 miles/74 kilometers per hour).
Its operating range is up to 300 nautical miles (345 miles/555 km), which allows for longer patrols and quick response operations.
