The Philippine Navy has commenced the Operational Readiness and Capability Tests (ORACT) for its newest guided missile frigate, BRP Miguel Malvar (FFG-06), as part of mandatory procedures prior to full deployment. These tests are designed to evaluate the ship and crew’s readiness across all domains of naval warfare, aligned with the service’s operational standards.
ORACT follows a four-phase process, beginning with a thorough inspection of all combat and support systems, crew qualification checks, and tactical procedure validation. The second phase involves intense drills and simulations to detect any system or procedural gaps. During the third phase, these issues are addressed by the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and Philippine Navy support units. The final stage integrates all corrections into a robust framework to ensure long-term combat effectiveness.
The testing regimen includes Anti-Surface Warfare (ASuW), Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), Anti-Air Warfare (AAW), and Electronic Warfare (EW) scenarios in realistic operational conditions.
