In Tsurumi-ki, Yokohama, the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force has put into service its fourth and last minesweeping ship of the Awaji class. After the vessel was delivered from the Kanagawa-based Japan Marine United Corporation, which started building the platform in 2021, a ceremony was held for the JS N?mi (MSO-307). The system’s name comes from Hiroshima Prefecture’s N?mi Island. After the navy’s Mikura-class escort ship in 1944, it was the second Japanese military vehicle to be given the title.
