As part of its initiative to enhance national maritime operations, the Peruvian Navy has christened and launched two Pativilca-class offshore patrol ships. The BAP Río Huarmey (PM 210) and BAP Río Nepeña (PM 211) are two of ten vessels planned for the program, which will conduct surveillance, anti-piracy, environmental response, and search and rescue activities. The vessels built under the Pativilca-class program are modeled after South Korea’s Tae Guk-class guard ship design.
