European shipbuilders Fincantieri and thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) have signed an industrial cooperation agreement to offer submarine capabilities to the Philippine Navy.
As part of the deal under Manila’s Horizon III military modernization program, Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri is providing its U212 Near Future Submarine.
In partnership with TKMS of Germany, the submarine is being built for the Italian Navy.
The submarine, a development of the HDW Class U212A, boasts cutting-edge features like air-independent propulsion and a low acoustic, magnetic, and visual signature.
