The first unit of the Royal Navy’s next-generation electronic warfare system has come off the manufacturing line and is now undergoing final testing and improvements. The two Queen Elizabeth-class carriers, Type 45 destroyers, and the soon-to-be-built Type 26 and 31 frigates will all be equipped with the Maritime Electronic Warfare System Integrated Capability (MEWSIC). Under a 13-year, 100 million pound ($125 million) deal, a Babcock-led team consisting of Elbit Systems UK and QinetiQ has created the system.
