Bollinger Shipyards in Florida delivered the US Coast Guard its 59th Sentinel-class fast response cutter. The occasion coincides with a 2008 initiative to replace the service’s out-of-date patrol boats, such as the Island-class vessels that have been in use since the 1980s. The new platform, named the USCGC Earl Cunningham (WPC-1159), will be the second of three Sentinel cutters stationed in Kodiak.
