Tuesday saw the United States announce the approval of a deal to sell Morocco up to 600 Stinger anti-air missiles and related equipment for $825 million.
“The planned sale will enhance Morocco’s capacity to counter existing and potential threats. In a statement, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) stated that Morocco plans to utilize these defense goods and services to modernize its military and enhance its current army’s short-range air defense capabilities.
According to the statement, “This will help the Moroccan Army’s goals of upgrading capability and improving interoperability with the US and other allies.”
The potential sale was given the green light by the State Department, and on Tuesday, the DSCA submitted the necessary notice to the US Congress, which must still approve the transaction.
