Norwegian companies Eelume and Maritime Robotics are developing an integrated mine countermeasures concept that links unmanned surface vessels with autonomous underwater robots. At the core of the system is the WP960 unmanned surface vessel, which serves as a deployment and command hub for multiple Eelume autonomous underwater vehicles tasked with mine detection and clearance. AI-based object recognition software processes sensor data to classify threats in near real time. The approach enables surface and subsurface assets to operate as a unified system, offering greater flexibility, efficiency, and safety for military, research, and civilian mine-clearance operations in complex maritime environments.
