Belgium has purchased BLAZE kamikaze counter-drone systems from Latvia as part of a 50-million-euro counter-UAV initiative. While the exact portion allocated to Origin Robotics was not revealed, Belgium is planning a broader 500-million-euro program that will add new radars and advanced jamming tools, though timelines remain unspecified. The BLAZE system is a portable weapon designed to destroy fast enemy drones and loitering munitions using a fragmentation warhead. It fuses radar, EO/IR sensors, and AI recognition to track and classify targets before the operator authorizes engagement. Safety features include mission termination, multilayer safeguards, and an auto-destruct function that activates if the drone veers off path, loses link, or encounters critical issues. The system is stored in a case that also acts as the launcher and charger, enabling tool-free assembly in under 10 minutes and quick follow-on launches.
