LightPath Technologies has secured an additional defense production order valued at $11 million to manufacture infrared imaging systems for counter-unmanned aircraft applications. The thermal cameras will be integrated into surveillance platforms designed to identify, monitor, and support the interception of hostile drones across military and homeland security missions. As part of the program, the company will progressively introduce its proprietary BlackDiamond infrared optics, reducing dependence on traditional germanium-based lenses that have faced growing supply chain constraints. BlackDiamond has been engineered to deliver comparable thermal transmission performance while offering a more resilient manufacturing solution for next-generation electro-optical systems. The award further expands LightPath’s growing portfolio of defense imaging contracts involving advanced thermal sensors for naval, airborne, and land-based surveillance platforms, highlighting increasing demand for reliable infrared technologies in modern security operations.
