AeroVironment has acquired Empirical Systems Aerospace for approximately $200 million, strengthening its capabilities in unmanned aircraft system development. ESAero’s expertise in hybrid propulsion, rapid prototyping, and certified manufacturing will enhance AeroVironment’s ability to accelerate product development cycles. The company will operate as a subsidiary within AeroVironment’s defense systems group, adding facilities in California. This acquisition aligns with the firm’s broader strategy of expanding its technological capabilities through targeted investments, following previous acquisitions such as BlueHalo. The move reflects ongoing consolidation in the defense drone industry.
