AeroVironment (AV) has partnered with OpenJAUS to enhance the interoperability of autonomous and remotely operated platforms through advanced software integration. The collaboration incorporates OpenJAUS’s development kit into AV’s AV_Halo Command suite, enabling compliance with the Joint Architecture for Unmanned Systems (JAUS) protocol—a U.S. Department of Defense standard for cross-platform data exchange among unmanned systems. The integration allows operators to manage air, ground, and maritime unmanned assets through a unified interface, streamlining mission execution and reducing software fragmentation. By embedding JAUS standards, AV’s system will facilitate faster onboarding of new payloads and vehicles without extensive reprogramming, thus shortening deployment cycles. The initiative supports DoD goals for modular, interoperable autonomous ecosystems, enhancing mission agility in multi-domain environments. The collaboration also sets a precedent for broader interoperability between government and industry-developed autonomous systems. According to AeroVironment, this step will simplify field operations and allow defense customers to adapt rapidly to evolving mission demands through scalable open architecture.
