Airbus has reported substantial progress in the development of the initial high-performance SIRTAP drones intended for the Spanish Armed Forces. Two SIRTAP prototypes are currently in the final assembly phase at Airbus’ Getafe facility near Madrid and are slated for a comprehensive ground and flight-testing campaign next year. This development follows a 2023 contract between the Spanish Ministry of Defense and Airbus, valued at 495 million euros (approximately $539 million), for the acquisition of nine SIRTAP systems, each comprising three unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and a ground control station.
