India is about to buy 400 Astra Mk-1 missiles, boosting the strength of its Air Force. These missiles can strike enemy aircraft from about 110 km away and are already used on Su-30MKI jets. Soon, they will also be added to MiG-29K and Tejas fighters. Built in India by DRDO and Bharat Dynamics, Astra gives India more independence in defense technology and reduces the need to import expensive foreign missiles.
