The UK has launched Project Nightfall, an ambitious program aimed at developing ground-launched tactical ballistic missiles for Ukraine to enhance long-range strike capabilities against Russian forces. Designed to carry a 200-kilogram high-explosive warhead and strike targets beyond 500 kilometers, the missile system is intended to operate in heavily contested environments characterized by electronic jamming and electromagnetic interference. The UK Ministry of Defence said Nightfall will be mobile and rapidly deployable, capable of firing multiple missiles before relocating within minutes. The program emphasizes rapid prototyping and scalable production, targeting an initial output of 10 missiles per month with a maximum unit cost of £800,000. Three industry teams will each receive £9-million contracts to deliver initial missiles within 12 months, supporting Ukraine while shaping future UK long-range strike requirements.
