Bulgaria has received approval from Washington for a major $620 million military purchase involving the Naval Strike Missile Coastal Defense System and associated technologies. This arrangement, structured to span five years, features delivery of tactical missiles, sophisticated communication systems like the Link-16 radio, state-of-the-art fire control centers, and mobile missile launchers. Additional training tools and transport aids are included to support full operational readiness.

Norwegian firm Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace has been designated as the lead supplier, overseeing system design and coordination. The agreement’s scope also provides for on-site support from up to five US government and industry personnel to aid in system integration. This landmark sale is projected to boost Bulgaria’s national defenses, while advancing the broader US strategy of reinforcing NATO’s southeastern European flank.
