Redwire’s Edge Autonomy division will enhance Croatia’s border security by supplying Penguin C VTOL drones equipped with Octopus gimbal-camera payloads under a Frontex-funded contract. The systems will support surveillance and rapid threat detection along difficult border regions. The drones have already proven effective in Frontex missions across Poland and Greece, offering long-endurance operations and strong performance in anti-smuggling and search-and-rescue roles. Croatia has previously used platforms like the Camcopter S-100 and eBee fixed-wing UAVs for coastal and forested terrain surveillance. The addition of Penguin C VTOL assets increases operational flexibility by enabling runway-free takeoff, high-resolution imaging, and real-time data streaming. The initiative aligns with Croatia’s broader modernization efforts, including upgrading maritime radar networks and integrating UAV intelligence into national border command systems.
